After Shareulo's rise, Janet and Lawrence have been in competition for control. Lawrence intends to rid of Janet once the true heir is dealt with.
Later it was revealed he was the one who caused the rebellion among Yulian's family and Pareia by supplying the poison 'Tears of Angel' that killed his Father, stepmothers, and injured his brother Orca. Yulian implies that he joined the Silence Empire's civil war on the side of Prince Shaone so he could take revenge against Lawrence.
